Socially acceptable.

Mon Oct 29, 2007, 7:41 AM
Socially acceptable is an interesting concept. It changes depending on the area you are. In some places it is more socially acceptable to dress one way than another. This makes me question what is socially acceptable as a whole. Are the things that are socially acceptable definable as culture? Culture is defined in this way as: the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group: the youth culture; the drug culture. I believe that means we can't have a countrywide standard of what is socially acceptable. It is impossible to have one defining culture in any one area because there are so many different types of people. Think of the United States as a whole. Think of all the different types of people here. There is no way in hell everyone can agree on a standard of what is socially acceptable. So why even try? Do your thing people! Don't let anyone tell you what you are doing is wrong. If it feels right to you, then damn it it is right.

Drugs are another interesting concept I have been kicking around. If you look at drugs as a tool to promote higher thought, then where do you become reliant on those tools. If you were given all the lumber to build a house and a screwdriver, yes you could build it, but it would take ages. But if you were given a drill, it would be done so much faster. But then you have to question how long you have to use that drill before you become horribly inefficient with a screwdriver. If you always rely on the better tool, you will become reliant upon it. View drugs as that drill. Every once in a while you need a reminder of what it's like to build those higher thoughts using just a screwdriver.

We went to Charlotte this weekend. God what a hell hole. It is just so depressing to be there. There is a visible social hierarchy heading down highway 74 from Charlotte. You can watch the money falter off as you head farther out of the city. Charlotte is just cleared lots for sale. No trees, no history, no culture. The people there are extrememly unaccepting and simply viewed us as those damn hippies. It was pretty depressing that people like that still exist. Why would anyone automatically hate us simply because we value questioning life and the things around us.
